Recycling

Recycling
With global warming on the rise, companies worldwide are seeking innovative ways to reduce their environmental impact.
The introduction of the plastic packaging tax in April 2022 is another measure aimed at encouraging UK companies to develop new approaches to ensure packaging contains at least 30% recycled plastic. As such, many recycling and plastic packaging companies have undertaken research and development activities to extend industry capabilities.
This includes improving existing machinery and processes or developing completely new technologies. Innovations like new sorting technologies can increase material separation accuracy, enabling highly contaminated materials to be recycled instead of being sent to landfills.

Sophisticated and Complex Solutions
Work to develop such technologies and processes will encounter highly complex challenges which require significant investment.
These challenges may relate to uncertainties associated with the modification of infrared separation and colour sorting technologies to increase material and contamination separation accuracy.
Complexities may also arise with the integration of such components with other highly sophisticated machinery which requires a novel solution.
